narrative (commentary): Shop // PIE 101 // Building a Planetary Invader/Explorer

narrative (commentary): Welcome, sorry I’m a bit late. I spilled a cup of coffee out in the hall.
Okay. Are we ready? Get your paper plates and pencils… and we will begin. Now if you bought the bargain basement brand paper plates, that’s great. Those are the one’s I like to work with, they are nice and thin.

narrative (commentary): Step 1) If you bought the bargain brand, grab one plate (these type of plates typically stick together), so pull the ONE stuck together, and peal it apart so that you have TWO pieces. Bottom line here is, you need two plates. Kids skip to step Two. [Note: Parents, if you are doing this project with a young child, lets link some synapses on a concept. And go back to step one. Grab one (stuck together) plate… and talk this through to your child. “One plate, pulled apart, makes two. Two halves (now put them back together) make a whole...Two halves make One.” Repeat this process over and over, and the spark will ignite, and the child will get it. You are on your way to help your child to master, math, science, and engineering.]

narrative (commentary): Step 2) Flip your plates over, so that they are upside to normal use. One plate will be the top side, the other plate will be the bottom. And get you favorite drawing pencil. For me, it’s a basic number 2 (There will not be a test).

narrative (commentary): Step 3) Using your pencil, draw doors and windows. (I start with a big hatch door, then add windows. I found if start with the windows the doors never quit fit right.) Use the natural flutes in the paper plate (if there) to draw the vertical sides to the windows. Once you have all the windows in place, draw alien occupants looking out the windows. Add outer lights, bolt heads, and any lettering you want.
Finish by coloring the art you drew.

narrative (commentary): Step 4) Now detail the bottom half. This is usually just landing gear hatches, lights and escape hatch. Finish by coloring your art. And that’s a wrap for today.
