narrative (commentary):Dear Reader, I write to you tonight as the Legend of Nomius … Continues…// scene: A writer’s cabin sits as a vignette in front of the backdrop of the solar system .

narrative (commentary): He continued his tale of Nomius, and the story about life in our solar system some 65 million years ago. When Mars was the intellectual hub of our local cosmos, Nomius was the gem, and Earth was a wild hostile planet with giant creatures, we now call dinosaurs. As he put it, "It seems that we can not comprehend any advanced life, prior to our existence. But that is like the Native Americans comprehending advanced peoples from across the pond, prior to Columbus, in 1492."

narrative (commentary): The inhabitants of Mars had mastered
what we call space travel. They had trade routes that visited planets for exploration and exploiting resources. Nomius was the gem of natural resources, especially precious metals such as gold. Volcanic activity amongst the planets was more prevalent in those days and Nomius was no exception. Located between the four inner solid planets and the four outer gas giant planets, Nomius was the most volatile, and volcanic. The composition of Nomius was...

narrative (commentary): similar to Earth's as far as having a core and a crust, yet it was so very different. It had an extremely thick molten core and a very thin crust in many places. One of the most amazing sights of Nomius was the golden ponds of molten metal. Similar to the tarpits of California, these golden pools of seepage, heated from below allowed for easy gold extraction, an artisan's dream. He added,
"Stories of 'Yellowstone' were once incomprehensible too."

A comet the size of Pluto is heading on a collision course for Nomius.

narrative (commentary): It was an amateur astronomer from Mars who spotted it first. But it was a team from the Space Agency who did the calculations. The comet, the ice ball, the size of Pluto, was on a collision course with Nomius. The evacuation of Nomius was orchestrated with quiet calm. The inhabitants were shuttled to hospitable environments that had previously been explored and documented. The Bungalow Moon was first choice. The Earth was last on the list. No one could survive its wild giant creatures.

narrative (commentary): The Martian scientists had done wonders in the time constraints that were forced upon them... yet they overlooked a couple things. And that was the magnitude of the blast and the blast zone itself. But just like a drop of water being purged beneath the surface of molten metal in the foundry, the comet (ball of ice) plunged below the crust of Nomius into the molten core, creating steam. Which created a blast of immeasurable magnitude.

narrative (commentary): The inhabitants of Nomius survived and continue to live on the Bungalow Moon, the Martians were not so lucky. As they were too close to the blast zone. If you have ever seen pictures of the May 18th, 1980 eruption of Mt. St. Helens and witnessed the blast zone & aftermath. Then please picture on a cosmic scale, a planet vaporizing, in a vacuum, with debris blown in all directions. Mars was too close. The blast was so powerful that it blew through the atmosphere of Mars, stripping it
completely barren of all life, water,

narrative (commentary): and most of its atmosphere. Pieces
of Nomius ricocheted off the edges of Mars, some of it hit the Earth. In the late 1800's people found gold nuggets laying about the ground in far off places of the west. Where it sat undisturbed for millions of years.
It was at this point of his story that I poured myself a drink, and said, "Wow, that's an amazing story..."
He said, "Yes, and the remnants of Nomius can still be seen today. What was left collected in the planetary track, and after 65 million years have spread out to form the asteroid belt
